renelbrooksmoon2Renel Brooks-Moon is the public address announcer for the San Francisco Giants.  The Oakland, CA native is the only female PA announcer, and one of the first African-American announcers in major league baseball.  Brooks-Moon is also a celebrity DJ for the Bay Area’s 98.1 KISS-FM, where she hosts been hosting “Renel In the Morning Show” since 1997.

In 2002, Brooks-Moon became the first woman to announce a championship in any professional sport.  Her scorecard from that World Series game in now in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

“…when I was a kid, there were no women doing anything in sports broadcasting. There weren’t any women doing anything in broadcasting, period. And now you watch ESPN, you watch Headline News, you watch any of the cable channels, you watch any of your local affiliates and networks; you see women covering sports like never before. It’s a great time to be a woman and to continue to make great strides.”
