Memphis funk group The Bar-Kays, developed their name based on the group’s favorite brand of rum (Barcadi).  Soulman Otis Redding chose the group as his regular back up band.  Tragedy struck in December 1967 when the plane carrying Redding and four Bar-Kay band members went down en route to a Madison, Wisconsin show.  Feel free to comment on your favorite tracks. And be sure to check out postings throughout the month.
